GENERAL WORKS.

Roads, $150,000.-It has been found necessary to increase this vote to meet the requirements of the rapid development that is now taking place.

Drainage. (a) Training Nullahs, $1,000.-To provide for areas in course of development.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works, $ 180,000.-It has been found necessary to increase this vote to meet the requirements of the rapid deve- lopment that is now taking place.

Miscellaneous, $10,000.-To provide for miscellaneous works such as small latrines, temporary markets, alterations to buildings leased by Gov- ernment, electrical fittings not otherwise provided for, the fixing of posts to mark boundaries and the filling in of holes, which might breed mosqui- toes, on undeveloped lots, and many small items asked for by various Departments from time to time.

Water Works, $8,000.-To provide for areas in course of develop-

ment.

Port Works, $2,000.-To provide for such small works as soundings and borings for foundations connected with Port Development as may be found to be essential.

('OMMUNICATIONS.

Chatham Road Extension, $80.000.-Necessary for the carrying on of the work of this arterial road which it is hoped will be completed in 1930

Boundary Street, forming road by covering nullah West of No. 8 Rail- way Bridge, $3,000.-Completes contract let in 1929.

Improving existing main roads for motor traffic-Portion of Salisbury and Nathan Roads, $50,000.—A vote to provide for the gradual yearly strengthening of these important roads to meet the growing heavy and fast moving traffic.

DRAINAGE.

New sewer diversion in Canton Road between Saigon Road and Jordan Road, $15,000.-This provides for the diversion of the sewerage between these two points from the Jordan Road outfall and will tend to mitigate the nuisance at present complained of there.

MISCELLANEOUS.

Furniture, $5,000.-Previously this item was included, in the Hong Kong Vote. It has now been found advisable that each district should carry its own vote.
